BSD Dancer Testimonies
The Barrie School of dance is not only a fantastic dance studio for dancers of all ages, but also a place that many dancers including myself call their second home. The teachers and studio owners are highly qualified and knowledgeable about dance and have created so many artistic, challenging and entertaining pieces over the years. They focus on teaching dancers proper technique, artistry, as well as performance & stage presence.
Aside from the great training that is provided, the BSD staff also makes it a priority to make sure every dancer feels safe and welcomed at the studio whether you are a competitive or recreational dancer. It doesn’t matter what kind of day I’m having coming into the studio, I always leave with a smile on my face.
When I first came to the studio I was very shy and had no dance experience. I didn’t expect much to come out of it, but now after being at BSD for 5 years, and on the competitive team for 4, I have improved immensely with not only my dance abilities but also my confidence. My dance teachers here at BSD always pushed me to be better and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Now because of them I have chosen to pursue dance as a career. I truly feel like they are my family as well as the other dancers, who are now who I spend all of my time with inside and outside of the studio. They are some of my best and greatest friends.
If you’re looking for a dance studio with superior level dance training, a family atmosphere, and a place to feel inspired to be your best, The Barrie School of Dance is the place to go!
Point your feet!
Stretch Your Knees!
Remember your choreograwhy!
That's the bare minimum.
For who you ask,
Us dancers That's who,
Every week we walk into the studio with almost the worst attitudes,
"I don't wanna stretch,
My feet hurt, I'm sick,"
Push through because that feeling we get after competing on stage, is the same feeling of pride we have when we know we killed it,
You worked for it, you pushed for it,
Your teachers worked for it,
Your teachers pushed you to get it,
Wow, our teachers,
Alex, Ainsley, Natasha, Bree, Kylie, Mrs. Jane and Lineen
Amazing human beings with unbelievable knowledge,
Knowledge I'm a proud to say I've of obtained,
Amazing human beings I'm gracious to say I've learned from,
For me personally, dance has been my rock, but these people have been the ones to make my rock bigger and stronger,
These teachers are so much more than teachers,
Lineen has held me while I've bursted into tears
And built me up after I've broke down,
Not only that he's pushed me to be better then myself,
Continuously giving me advice on how to move forward with the future,
That's something I can only be so gracious for,
Miss Alex and Miss Ainsley my dance moms as I am their black adopted son,
Miss Alex saw potential in me that I would have never seen in myself in a million years,
First year of competitive dance and she partners me with this contemporary god Julia Ruscio,
Julia pushed me but mostly helped me enjoy contemporary,
It wasn't until the end of that comp year and seeing the accomplishments of that duet which made me reflect and love the fact Ms. Alex CHOSE ME to do that duet...
Pushed me to point my feet,
Told me that I needed to,
Point your feet!
Stretch Your Knees!
Remember your choreography!
Do the bare minimum,
And I couldn't do it,
Bc I wasn't trying, it just hadn't happened yet,
but the minute I did it paid off,
The smile and the excitement on Ms. Alex's face when she saw our awards,
Made it clear to me working hard and listening to your teachers is everything,
Not only does it impact you to become better but the feelings of success that you and your teacher shares is tremendous,
Second year, it got serious Ms. Alex pushed me to a point I couldn't believe,
She wanted MY input on said moves in the duet,
Then blessed my imagination with the technique to make it that much better,
She created a dancer that I would consider to be well rounded,
Out of a slim piece of rock,
That's some miracle work,
Ms. Alex is one to create or morph miracles out of the most dull tools in the toolbox,
Ms. Ainsley, I don't even know where to begin.
I've shared every hardship, emotions,
And successes with you,
It lightly started when I decided to help out with the garbages and then cleaning the studio,
But I've never learned so much from such a strong, influential, beautiful, amazon such as yourself,
Ms. Ainsley literally taught me musical theatre in total of 6 classes,
Then I became old man Jay for about 2 hours before I went on stage,
But it didn't matter whether I was painting the walls at the studio or sharing musical tastes on the way to competitions,
I was continuously learning,
If Ms. Ainsley can do all of the millions of things that she does and run off of something like 4 hours of sleep every night then I can..
Point my feet!
Stretch my Knees!
Remember my choreography!
And do the bare minimum.

Miss Ainsley, you’re more than a teacher and way more than a friend, no matter what the situation you’re always on top of it and I really admire that in you. Thank you for being there for me and looking out for me all the time it really does mean a lot.
Ms Alex Farr where do I start? When you asked me to try out for the comp team I was kinda suprised but looking back on it I’m starting to see what you saw in me then. You saw potential and I have to thank you with all my heart for pushing me to my breaking point to pull it out of me. I cant express how much it means to me that you believed in me so much and did everything you could to make into the dancer I am today. I’ve learned so much from you because you are an amazing teacher but you aren’t just my teacher, you’re my mom, my friend, my personal trainer, and most of all you’re someone that I can trust with all of my heart. Love you Ms Alex and thank you again for everything you do, not just for me but for everyone who walks through those front doors, you have a huge impact on so many lives every day and I’m sure they all love you for it.
To all the parents thank you for raising your children to be such amazing people and thank you for supporting the whole team and becoming parents for all of us. None of this would be possible without you guys so don't think you go unappreciated because I’m sure all of your children really appreciate what you do for them, they just think its not cool to say it 😉 😉... I guess that's the end of this status lol thanks again everyone love you all 💜
